HYDERABAD: Prohibition and excise minister V. Srinivas Goud said action would be initiated against persons bringing in non-duty paid (NDP) liquor from other states to Telangana. He said that in recent raids, excise officials seized had around Rs 46 lakh worth of NDP liquor.
Speaking to reporters here at the excise station in Shamshabad on Wednesday, minister Goud said that smuggling of NDPL would affect the state exchequer. Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao had directed officials to strictly prevent smuggling of NDPL, he said.
Only 2 litres of foreign liquor purchased from duty-free shops abroad will be allowed into Telangana state, minister Goud said. An individual would be allowed to store 4.5 litres liquor and 7.5 litres that at purchased from licensed shops in the state.
Deputy commissioner David Ravikanth, assistant commissioner Chandraiah, Shamshabad excise superintendent Satyanarayana were present.
Giving a break-up of seizure of smuggled stock, he said around Rs 16 lakh worth NDPL was seized during a special drive. At the Shamshabad airport, 85 NDPL cases were registered and 81 persons taken into custody. In another instance, Rs 30 lakh worth NDPL liquor from Haryana was seized under the Quthbullapur excise station limits and 15 persons arrested, he said. In Saroornagar, Malkajgiri excise station limits, 350 litre of ‘military liquor’ was seized.
