Malkapet reservoir's second trial run held successfully
KARIMNAGAR: The irrigation department's employees successfully completed the second pump trial wet run of the Malkapet reservoir in the Malkapet village of the Konaraopet mandal of Rajanna Sircilla district on Sunday.
Package-9 of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme (KLIS) project included the construction of the 3 tmc Malkapet reservoir, which cost Rs 504 crore. The trial wet run was conducted for one hour in the early morning from 12.40 am to 1.40 am by lifting the Godavari water into the reservoir, under the supervision of package-9 executive engineer Gangam Srinivas Reddy.
He claimed that when the two Malkapet reservoir pumps' trial runs were successfully completed, water for agricultural purposes would be given to over 60,000 acres of land, stabilising about 26,150 acres of ayacut land underneath the reservoir. The Malkapet reservoir will help farmers in the two constituencies of Vemulawada and Sircilla who are struggling with a chronic lack of water for irrigation.
He continued, "Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao will soon preside over the reservoir's inauguration ceremony." It should be mentioned that on May 23, the first trial wet run of the Malkapet reservoir's first pump was completed successfully.
K.T. Rama Rao, the IT minister and MLA for Sircilla, as well as district collector Anurag Jayanti, congratulated the officials for finishing the work within the stipulated time frame and for successfully carrying out the trial wet runs of the reservoir's two motor pumps.
