YSRC municipal vice chairman attempts suicide

KAKINADA: Ramachandrapuram municipal vice-chairman Kolamuru Shivaji of YSRC attempted suicide after he was beaten up by some of his own party leaders in the presence of BC welfare minister Ch. Srinivasa Venu Gopalakrishna on Sunday during the Jagananna Suraksha programme at Muchumilli in Ramachandrapuram mandal of Dr B.R. Konaseema district.

Just as the programme, which Shivaji also attended, was about to conclude, some followers of Venu Gopalakrishna led by Juttiga Uday pulled Shivaji by the collar and allegedly attacked him. They accused Shivaji of attending a meeting held by Rajya Sabha member Pilli Subhash Chandra Bose’s son Surya Prakash at Venkatayapalem. They asked Shivaji why he is attending the Suraksha programme of the minister.

It is said the minister and others tried to stop the attackers, who did not heed their advice.

Unable to bear the insult, Shivaji attempted suicide soon after he reached his house. He was rushed to the Area Hospital at Ramachandrapuram, where doctors are treating him.

TD Ramachandrapuram constituency in-charge Reddy Subrahmanyam called on Shivaji at the Area Hospital. Reddy Subrahmanyam said though he belongs to Telugu Desam, he is condemning the attack on YSRC leader Shivaji.

There are rumours that the BC welfare minister is provoking his followers to undermine other YSRC leaders to maintain an upper hand in the party.
