File FIRs over child marriages: Child rights body tells cops
Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh State Commission for Protection of Child Rights member met district SP K.V. Murali Krishna and emphasised the need for the police department to register FIRs in every instance of child marriage in Anekapalli district, on Thursday.
Gondu Sitaram, during a meeting with Murali Krishna, discussed the importance of training women welfare secretaries to play a significant role in preventing child marriages. They also discussed strategies to curb child marriages, including the registration of such marriages at the village and ward levels.
The focus lies on raising awareness within political parties and civil society about the consequences and penalties of child marriages.
Sitaram said Anekapalli district could be rid of child marriages, with cooperation from the police department. The SP also committed towards making efforts to eliminate child marriages. Various officials, including additional SP Vijaya Bhaskar and DCPU representatives attended the meeting.
