VHR pays respects to Shaligouraram’s martyrs
HYDERABAD: Recalling the sacrifices of the people of Nalgonda district during the armed struggle against Nizam’s rule, Congress former MP V. Hanumantha Rao paid respects to ten people from Shaligouraram village who were gunned down by the Razakars in 1948 for celebrating India’s Independence.
Visiting Shaligouraram on Sunday, Rao recalled that ten youngsters led by Srihari had hoisted the National Flag at their school on August 15, 1948, a year after the nation's independence. The Razakars had then shot them dead. Police Action to liberate took place a month later.
Supporting the demand for the construction of a samadhi for the ten youngsters at the site, Hanumantha Rao announced that he would contribute Rs 3 lakh for it. He met the families of the dead and paid his respects.
Recalling the services of the late Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and home minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Hanumantha Rao said that the BJP was trying to change historical facts with its narrative.
He held that the BJP leaders like Union minister Amit Shah were solely interested in winning elections and, by twisting historical facts, were trying to belittle the collective efforts of leaders who were part of the first government of Independent India, which is credited for integrating some 500 princely states into the mainland.
