Hampi 'Sound and Light' show makes a comeback!
Ballari: It’s making a comeback after nearly eight years. The popular ‘Sound and Light’ show is returning to the Hampi Utsav, a three-day mega cultural festival of dance, drama and music, that will be held at Hampi from November 3 to 9 .
The show conducted by the song and drama division of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting was a hit and drew huge crowds at the utsav in the past, but was scrapped for reasons unknown in 2008.
However, on October 7 this year a decision was taken to revive the show during the utsav at a meeting in New Delhi attended by deputy commissioner, Ramprasath Manohar, and officials of the song and drama division of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry.
Now those attending the utsav will get to enjoy the show once again at Hampi. Based on the “Vijayanagar Vaibhava’ theme, it will be held near the elephant stables from 7 p.m. to 9.30 p.m, according to Mr Manohar.
Work on erecting the stages for the show and other arrangements will begin on October 20 and local artistes too will be allowed to participate after a formal interview and training, going by him.
In the past the song and drama division of the Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting organised the show regularly for seven days. Its themes, Vijayanagar Vaibhava and Karnataka Vaibhava, were popular and drew large audiences.
