VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Central MLA Malladi Vishnu and Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) officials organised processions and programmes underlining the importance of Friday being the Dry Day throughout the city to eliminate mosquitoes menace.
Addressing a programme in 31st Division Srinagar Colony as chief guest, Vishnu pointed out that dengue mosquitoes lay their eggs mostly in stored water. Hence, at least every three days, people should clean their water drums, tanks and other storage points, including waste coconuts. Otherwise, these can become the breeding points for mosquitos.
The MLA asked VMC officials, Asha and health workers to undertake special measures to control mosquitoes by eliminating their breeding grounds. He suggested that sanitation programmes and fogging operations be carried out on a daily basis.
Deputy mayor Bellam Durga and VMC chief medical officer Dr. P. Ratnavali, along with other officials also went house to house in several areas advising residents against letting water stagnate in open, as this can become a habitat for mosquitos to breed. They also suggested that citizens observe Friday as a Dry Day to keep mosquitos away.
