Malayalis Bond at Carnival
Hyderabad: Malayalis bonded during a carnival in Secunderabad at St Mary’s School grounds on Sunday. Organised by the All India Malayalee Association, Telangana Unit, Malayalee families participated in games, enjoyed Kerala food and took in music and cultural programmes at the event.
B.C.R. Nair, Telangana state committee chairman, mentioned that the event brought together approximately 30 Malayali organisations in the twin cities. He said that the event served as a curtain-raiser for a national conference of the association, scheduled to be held in Hyderabad on July 6 and 7.
Families enjoyed a gastronomical delight at the food stalls, which offered ‘appams’, traditional fish curry, kappa biryani, ‘pazhampuri’ and ‘parotta’, along with homemade specialities like ‘payasam’, ‘karimeen fry’, ‘uzhunnuvada’, and ‘chukka kappi’.
There were Mohiniyattam, Bharatanatyam, Chakyarkoothu and Shap Sangeetham performances. The rhythmic beats of Chenda and the melodious tunes of traditional instruments echoed, creating a captivating tapestry of Kerala’s cultural heritage.
The games featured traditional carnival classics. The raffle draw was also a hit among the participants, with winners taking home grand prizes.
