Fervour marks Shab-e-Meraj
HYDERABAD: Muslims across the city celebrated Shab-e-Meraj (the night of ascension) with religious fervour. Worshippers in large groups visited nearby mosques while Mecca Masjid had the largest congregation where Maulana Rizwan Qureshi led the prayers.
Discourses and naatiya mehfils were organised after Isha prayers at major mosques like Shahi masjid at Public Garden, Jama masjid chowk, Musheerabad Jama masjid, Spanish mosque and Jama masjid Chilkalguda.
In his discourse at Jama masjid chowk, Maulana Jaffer Pasha Sani-e-Aqil, the Amir-e-Millat-e-Islamia, urged youth to imbibe discipline and swear by Islamic principles for the betterment of society.
At the Chilkalguda Jama masjid, Hafiz Shakir led Isha prayers while founder and president of the city-based Quran Academy, Maulana Syed Rizwan Pasha Quadri spoke on the essence of Shab-e-Meraj. He appealed to youth to lead an austere life and help the needy.
According to Islamic scriptures, on Shab-e-Meraj, Prophet Muhammad embarked on the miraculous journey to heaven from Masjid Al-Asqa in Jerusalem. It was during this journey that the five prayers were made mandatory every day. The event marks the countdown of Ramzan.
Meanwhile, with Maha Shivaratri and Shab-e-Meraj falling on the same day, police made elaborate arrangements across the city. Most of the flyovers remained closed for traffic.
