Hyderabad: A dog that had fallen into a 100-feet gorge in an isolated area of Dhulapally a week ago, was rescued on Thursday. The animal was dehydrated as it had no water or food for a week, and is recovering in a rescue home.
A person who noticed the dog in pit called up the city-based animal welfare group People for Animals. Four PFA volunteers, Govind, Star, Ganesh and Ananth, came to the site and began the rescue operation.
“It was 5 pm when we began our rescue. The team had not carried equipment needed for such an operation. We were running out of daylight and had to think fast,” Govind said.
The team decided to call the fire department for help but it was taking too long for them to find their way, he said.
Ganesh and Star went to the fire department in Jeedimetla to get the equipment.
“We were lucky that two police officers decided to join us in the operation,” said Govind.
The rescue began at dawn on Thursday. Two volunteers descended into the well. “It was a scary couple of minutes. They managed to get down safely. The dog was very scared and they had to chase it around for a bit to catch it.” he said.
