Mynampally, cops stopping welfare work: BJYM leader
Hyderabad: BJYM national treasurer P.M. Sai Prasad has alleged that the Malkajgiri police, at the behest of BRS MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao, were preventing welfare programmes being taken up the NGO, Team SAI, aimed at improving nutritional outcomes for pregnant women, children, and lactating mothers.
In a statement, Prasad said that as part of the NGO’s ‘Amma Kosam’ programme, they prepared nutrition kits containing protein powder, haemoglobin syrup, dates, fibre-rich biscuits, peanuts chiki, toys all packed in a basket for distribution at Sri Lakshmi Sai Gardens in the Malkajgiri Assembly Constituency on Thursday.
However, the Malkajgiri police, at the behest of the BRS MLA, blocked the programme declaring that distribution of the kits was illegal. “Though we explained that the government orders do not apply to the programme, the police did not allow the distribution of the kits, each costing around Rs 1,700, to 800 pregnant and lactating mothers,” Prasad said.
Prasad said that Hanumantha Rao was constantly preventing any public service by him, or the NGO. With the active support of the Malkajgiri police, he not allowing the BJYM workers to take up any welfare activities for the people.
