Cairn Oil & Gas to help improve livelihoods of fishermen in Ravva, AP
RAVVA: In line with its mission to transform communities, Cairn Oil & Gas, part of Vedanta Group and India’s largest private oil and gas exploration and production company, to help improve the livelihoods of fishermen, distributed fishing nets to village elders and fishermen community of S.Yanam village in Andhra Pradesh. Cairn Oil & Gas operates the Ravva oil field, situated in proximity to S.Yanam village which hosts members of the fishing community.
The Ravva JV contributes INR 5 crore every year from its CSR fund to the District Administration, to supply fishing nets through the District Fisheries Department, enabling livelihood development for the community members.
The fishing nets were distributed to 450 fishermen of the Ravva JV port by representatives of the District Administration and Mr SM Pasha and Soumen Dev from Cairn Oil & Gas amidst the gracious presence of Hon’ble Minister Sri Pinipe Viswaroop.
Speaking at the event, the Hon’ble Minister, Sri Pinipe Viswaroop, said, “I appreciate Cairn Oil & Gas and Vedanta for this community initiative. I urge the fishermen's community to make good use of these nets that can significantly aid their livelihood and contribute to the region’s local prosperity. I also request Cairn, Vedanta to continue their support for local communities through CSR activities in the future too”.
This initiative follows up on Cairn’s commitment to ‘Transforming Communities’ – a key pillar in its ESG vision that seeks to empower local communities with adequate skills, resources and livelihood opportunities and enhance their contribution to overall national growth and prosperity.
