Permanent solution to be found to check pollution in Godavari river, says MP Bharat
KAKINADA: Rajamahendravaram MP Margani Bharat said on Friday that a permanent solution would be found for checking pollution due to waste waters coming from the AP Paper Mills.
Godavari Parirakshana Samithi President TK Visweswara Reddy is undertaking a relay fast, demanding that the government prevent the APPM from releasing its waste water into the Godavari river.
The relay fast was on its fourth day on Friday. Bharat extended his support to the agitation. He said the mill management was releasing water without treatment into the islet areas in the river and the waste waters were getting mixed with the drinking water sources.
He said the polluted water should be directly released into the sea after treatment or to the lower parts of the Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage.
He had submitted a project report of Rs 400 crore for saving River Godavari from pollution, under the National River Pollution Control Scheme. Of this, a sum of Rs 88 crores has been sanctioned by the Union Government, he said.
He said that the central government would invite tenders for the project.
Congress party’s East Godavari district president Martin Luther King and city president Balaepalli Muralidhar visited the relay fast camp and expressed their solidarity with Visweswara Reddy. Reddy said he would continue the agitation until the problem was sorted out.
