MLA contestant committed suicide in Nizamabad
Nizamabad: A candidate for the November 30 elections, Yamaganti Kannaiah Goud, 29, of the Alliance of Democratic Reforms Party, died by suicide at his residence at Gayatrinagar on Sunday. Goud, a vegetable vendor, had filed his papers for the Nizamabad Urban constituency and was one of the 21 candidates.
The Election Commission had allotted him ‘roti maker’ as the poll symbol.
Election officers submitted a report to the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding the suicide. Further action will be initiated as per the ECI’s orders, sources said, when asked about the fate of the election in the constituency.
Contesting from Nizamabad Urban are BRS MLA Bigala Ganesh Gupta, Congress’ Mohammad Ali Shabbir and BJP nominee Dhanpal Suryanarayana Gupta.
Police said that Goud might committed suicide due to harassment from organisers of an app that honeytraps unwary people. His last phone call and data showed that he had answered calls from the app and it is suspected that he was blackmailed by the organisers who threatened him to pay up or they would release nude videos.
Goud is survived by wife and their baby. He had constructed a house. Police shifted body for post-mortem at Government General Hospital.
