CM hikes remuneration for specialist doctors in AP

Vijayawada: Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that salaries of specialist doctors working in rural areas of Andhra Pradesh are being increased to ₹2,00,000 per month. Those discharging duties in tribal areas will draw a higher salary of ₹2,50,000 per month.

AP Vaidya Vidhana Parishad (APVVP) commissioner Dr. Vinod Kumar disclosed on Sunday that soon after the CM’s announcement hiking the salaries of specialist doctors in tribal and rural pockets, some specialists have readily opted for postings in places like Chintoor, Kunavaram, Paderu and so on.

Dr. Vinod Kumar said as of June 2019, more than 1,250 posts of specialist doctors had been lying vacant in APVVP Hospitals alone. These included 463 promotional posts and 792 direct entry posts of CAS specialists.

With the Chief Minister determined to fill all vacant posts in government hospitals, eight notifications have been issued so far in phased manner for filling up of specialist posts to reach the goal of zero vacancies in APVVP hospitals.

He pointed out that orders had been issued for appointment of 277 gynaecologists, 234 anaesthetists, 146 paediatricians, 144 physicians, 168 general surgeons, 55 orthopaedicians, 78 ophthalmologists, 65 ENT specialists and 145 other specialists.

The APVVP commissioner said following these efforts, vacant posts of CAS specialists had been brought down to approximately 300 as on December 10, 2022. This provides substantial evidence that specialist doctors are ready to opt for government service even in difficult areas.

Dr. Vinod Kumar emphasised that to prevent delay in appointments, walk-in recruitment method had been chosen after conducting seven rounds of recruitment in which applications were invited through online mode. Scrutiny of applications submitted by candidates had been carried out in the presence of these doctors during the walk-in interviews. Results related to selection of doctors had also been announced on the same day.

The APVVP commissioner underlined that the reason for not filling up all vacancies during the walk-in-recruitment is rule of reservation and non-availability of suitable candidates in reserved categories.
