Hyderabad: A mini truck broke down on the road at the busy Mehdipatnam Junction on Sunday afternoon, leading to heavy traffic congestion in the area for around half an hour till 4.30 pm.
Around 3 pm, the truck got punctured and stopped right in the middle of the road at the Mehdipatnam Garrison Gate. Traffic was halted at the Retibowli signal — from Rajendranagar, Tolichowki and Nanalnagar towards Masab Tank and further, blocking the U-turn where the truck broke down.
Traffic police rushed to the spot to assist the driver in replacing the punctured tyre. As per the traffic police challan portal, the vehicle had a fine of Rs 1,370 for traffic rule violations.
Many commuters impatiently honked horns and some motorists even took to rash driving to bypass the obstruction on the road on a busy Sunday. K. Naresh, who was heading for Tank Bund with kids on his bike, said, “My kids have lost their excitement for this sweet Sunday.”
Auto rickshaw driver Md Arif, coming from Toli Chowki, said he was wondering why there was such an unexpected heavy traffic jam on a lean-traffic day.
Ahmed Ansari, a local resident said, “I rushed here to assist the police clear the traffic.”
According to the Asifnagar traffic police, the traffic congestion was cleared around 4.30 pm.
