Service Level Progress (SLP) to be Delayed

Hyderabad: The Centre’s ranking of cities based on their cleanliness under the Swachh Survekshan (SS) may be delayed this year in view of the Lok Sabha elections, sources in the GHMC said on Monday.

The service level progress (SLP), one of the three components used to rank a city, will not take place in January as scheduled. “The SLP will be delayed due to Lok Sabha elections,” said an official of the GHMC.

The theme of Swachh Survekshan 2024 is ‘Reduce Reuse Recycle’. Cities will be ranked on SLP, certification and citizens voice.

Under SLP, urban local bodies are given scores by the Union ministry of urban affairs based on continuous focus on several factors including segregated collection and transportation of waste, sanitation, cleanliness in public places and tourist locations.

Under the certification category, the cities are given a star rating based on door to door collection and prevention of open defecation, among others.

The 'citizens voice' component has been reframed as Jan Andolan and the score under this component is given based on the feedback of people.
