HYDERABAD: City police commissioner C.V. Anand on Saturday reorganised the Hyderabad city police. The city police was last reorganised in 1987 when the city had a population of 25 lakh. A semi-reorganisation was last done in 2002.
Due to the increase in population, the government felt the need for ‘Mega City Policing’, apart from improvement in infrastructure like roads and buildings to meet this challenge.
Addressing the media here on Saturday, C.V. Anand said that for Hyderabad city two new DCP-headed zones, south-east and south-west, were sanctioned and are functioning under 11 divisions headed by 11 assistant commissioner of police (ACP).
The city has recently opened 11 new police stations, 13 new traffic police stations, five new women police stations and an additional 1,252 police personnel recruited to improve the safety and security apparatus for the public.
The 11 new police stations are, Domalguda, Secretariat, Khairatabad, Warasiguda, Bandlaguda, IS Sadan, Gudimalkapur, Filmnagar, Masab Tank, Madhuranagar, Borabanda.
In 2016, when new districts were created in Telangana, Hyderabad city’s police organisation remained the same though the population increased from 68 lakh in 2011 to 80 lakh in 2021.
In the three commissionerates, the population is 1.6 crore with 40 lakh floating population. Therefore, the state government felt the need for ‘Mega City Policing’, Anand said.
The commissioner said that several new wings have also been established to expand the scope of policing. Two new units in the Task Force, an IT Cell, Hyderabad Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) and Cyber crime unit have been set up.
