RGIA is an important hub for us, says Sri Lankan Airlines CEO

HYDERABAD: A budget-friendly island-nation, which has a lot to offer by way of breathtaking beaches and mesmerizing tourist spots, especially to Indians, should be on the must-visit destination plans of everyone going on a vacation. Catering to this segment is Sri Lankan Airlines, which has witnessed a massive growth post-Covid.

The tourist traffic to Sri Lanka in 2022 was 719,978, of which Indians accounted for 123,004. This year, from January to June, the tourist arrivals were at 624,814 with 115,612 of them being Indians.

Richard Nuttal, CEO, of Sri Lankan Airlines, during an interaction with this correspondent, said “Sri Lanka is back, it offers great value for money to the tourists.

Soon after Covid restrictions were lifted there was a humongous rise in tourism, which the country could not capitalize on due to political and economic crises. It is because of Western media exaggeration that tourists are hesitant to visit.”

He added “Hyderabad is such a beautiful place. For our airlines, RGIA is one of the busiest and most important hubs.”

Dimuthu Tennakoon, head of worldwide sales, shared the trajectory footfall figures.
