EFLU Case: Protests Erupt Across Hyderabad Colleges

Students organised silent solidarity marches within their respective college campuses to voice their concerns

Hyderabad: Students from various colleges in the city expressed their solidarity with a woman student who was allegedly sexually harassed at the English & Foreign Languages University (EFLU).

The students organised silent solidarity marches within their respective college campuses to voice their concerns over the university's perceived inaction on the issue.

Efforts to engage with EFLU's administration, including Vice Chancellor Prof. E. Suresh Kumar, Registrar, and Proctor T. Samson, proved futile.

The protest began as early as 4 am on Thursday but was forcibly dispersed at 2 am on Friday following police intervention.

According to a student, who preferred to remain anonymous, said, "All we sought was a dialogue with the VC who had been hiding in the admin block all day long. It was only after police were called to the campus and a few students were detained that he silently left the campus in the wee hours of Friday."

"Some of us were told to go home and 'enjoy the Dasara holidays' instead of raising our concerns. Following police action and increased security, many have left for their homes on Friday morning," reported another student.

Osmania University police station house officer P. Anjaneyulu confirmed that a special team had been formed to identify the two unidentified men in hoodies mentioned by the victim in her statement. There has been limited progress in the case.
