Hyderabad: Three people from same family contest from 3 rival parties
Hyderabad: Three people from the same family are contesting the elections from three different parties — TRS, Congress and the Telugu Desam. Two of them are contesting from the same constituency, making the election more engaging.
Mr Kuna Srisailam Goud and his son Mr Vivekanand Goud are contesting from Qutubullapur against each other, representing two major rivals. While Mr Srisailam Goud is with the Congress, Mr Vivekanand Goud is with the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS). Mr Venkatesh Goud, Mr Srisailam Goud’s uncle, preferred Sanathnagar on a Telugu Desam ticket.
Mr Srisailam Goud won as an independent in 2009. In 2014 he got a ticket from the Congress but lost to his son Vivekanand Goud, who was contesting from the Telugu Desam. He later moved over to the Telugu Desam.
Mr Venkatesh Goud kept away from politics in the beginning but was inspired to take up electoral politics when film actor Chiranjeevi came up with the Praja Rajyam. He joined up and secured the Kukatpally ticket in 2009 and contested against Mr Jayaprakash Narayan of the Lok Satta and lost.
