Gail protest resumes in Kozhikode
KOZHIKODE: The Anti-GAIL Action Council has resumed the agitation against the state government on its failure to implement the relief package in a foolproof way. Hundreds of workers participated in the protest march organised to Nellikkamparambu where the pipe-laying works are on full swing. A large posse of police was stationed at Mukkam to avoid any untoward incidents. A host of UDF leaders including MI Shanawas MP, DCC president T Siddique, former MLA C Moyinkutti among others led the agitation.
As a precaution police had conducted route march in the area on Monday itself. Police blocked the march with barricades near the Niellikamparambu town on the way to the construction site of GAIL project. When police foiled the attempt of agitators to push into the area, police had to use force and remove them.
Later workers organized a sit-in on the site. MI Shanawas MP inaugurated a protest meeting. K.M. Shaji MLA, C.P. Cheriyamuhammed and Youth League leader P.K. Firoz among others spoke. A large contingent of police monitored by rural SP M.K. Pushakaran has been camping on the site.
