3 crore women travel by TSRTC in 11 days

Hyderabad: A record number of three crore women have travelled in the state-owned TSRTC buses in 11 days after Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy introduced the Maha Lakshmi Scheme, a free bus travel facility for women.

The scheme was started on December 9 as soon as the Congress government came into power in Telangana state. An average of 30 lakh women commute every day, stated TSRTC on Wednesday showing statistics. Including men, a total of 51 lakh people are transported safely to their destinations by the organisation every day. Sixty-two per cent of the passengers are women.

With this novel initiative, several families are able to save between Rs 2,000 and Rs 4,000 on an average per month, they stated. The occupancy ratio of the TSRTC has also increased significantly from 69 per cent to 88 per cent as a result of the free travel scheme for women.

The corporation mentioned that Yadagirigutta, Vemulawada, Dubbaka, Gajwel-Pragnapur, Huzurabad, Medchal, Musheerabad, Miyapur-2, Jeedimetla and Kushaiguda depots have achieved 100 per cent occupancy ratio in the last three days. Seventeen depots recorded more than hundred per cent of occupancy on December 16, 20 depots on December 17 and 45 depots on December 18.

The TSRTC is implementing the ‘Maha Lakshmi — Free bus travel facility for women’ scheme in the buses of Palle Velugu, Express, City Ordinary and Metro Express from December 15.
