Kids Get Into the Christmas Groove

Hyderabad: Christmas, which brings along joyousness and excitement that gets laced with colourful decorations, Christmas trees, stars and many other forms of exhilarations, marks a gala time for children. They engage themselves in myriad activities during the season.

Making it even more special is the Sunday school, where they are actively involved in skits, singing, nativity plays and getting attired in Christmas characters. Several churches in the twin cities have Sunday school services.

This time around, a uniquely welcome surprise came from a Sunday school student, who came dressed up like a Christmas tree.

With Christmas round the corner, Cross Pointe Church at Millennium Gardens started their celebrations in high festive spirits. The kids performed skits along with a medley of carols and a nativity scene that enthralled the congregation.

According to Pastor Sumanth Perumalla, “Backed by carols, they staged a play ‘What's in a Name?’, which showed the different names that God revealed Himself, through which we understand His profound love for humanity. Followed by candlelight worship, they sang ‘Silent Night’ and culminated the day with dancing and carols.”

According to Sis. Rev. Joy Cherian from the United People’s Fellowship, Ramnagar, “The children engaged themselves in several activities. The semi-Christmas is equally joyful and children gathered for the cake cutting event and enjoyed the candle lights.”

Children from the Sunday school Wesley Church in Secunderabad were even more enthusiastic as their activities were in the large open area that the church boasts of, said Rev. G. Kiran Kumar, who added “committee members took special interest in making the event more special.”

The oldest Sunday School in the twin cities is at the Centenary Methodist English Sunday school.

For Shane and Shawn Theodore from Musheerabad, it was a day to remember as they engaged themselves in the singing event, among other activities, with gusto.

The schools’ superintendent Sandeep Emmanuel said “We had lots of surprises for children. Elders came dressed up in Christmas characters and performed in the nativity play, which was directed by Nathan and Caroline Paul.”
