Police close case of sexual assault of Eflu student for lack of evidence

Hyderabad: Osmania University police, probing the case of an Eflu student who was allegedly assaulted sexually by two unidentified persons on the university campus two months ago, did not find any evidence supporting the girl’s claims. With no evidence of any sort, police completed the investigation and have decided to close the case “due to lack of evidence”.

Officials associated with the investigation told Deccan Chronicle that immediately after the alleged assault, the girl was taken to the university dispensary and later to another hospital for a medical check-up but it did not reveal any assault as claimed by her.

Even the circumstantial evidence did not give out any clues indicating that she was assaulted. Some persons residing near the alleged place of the incident said that they did not hear anybody crying for help or raising an alarm.

Further analysis of multiple CCTVs even in the connecting roads did not show any intrusion into the campus on the day or time of the alleged incident.

Officials said that the girl’s statements on multiple occasions were varying from one another and the contents in her statements also did not corroborate with the findings.

Due to lack of any evidence supporting the complainant’s claims, the case is being closed and proceedings have already begun in that direction, an official confirmed.

On October 18, the student complained that she was assaulted by two unidentified persons in the campus. This led to a series of protests, including hunger-strikes, in the university and other varsities in the city.
