Student falls from fourth floor of MBC Hostel, dies
Hyderabad: A 23-year-old student, who was on the phone with her mother, fell from the fourth floor balcony of the MBC Hostel at Sitaphalmandi and died past midnight on Satuday. The victim, Anjali Chillar, was a MA second year student of the English and Foreign Language University (EFLU), Osmania University police said.
Police said the incident occurred at 12.40 am when the victim was sitting on the balcony wall, which is four-and-a-half feet in height, and rocking on it as was her usual practice. Her hostel mates had advised her against it, OU police inspector L. Ramesh Naik said.
Her hostel-mate Preeti called the police who rushed the victim to a private hospital where the doctors declared Anjali dead, Neetu Johnson, a friend of the victim, said Anjali who hailed from Bamnoli in Jhajhar of Haryana was disturbed for the past few months over some family disputes.
Anjali was preparing for some exams, her friends said. The friends and the police informed the victim’s family who reached the city later in the day.
The victim’s brother, Aditya Chillar, a Delhi University student, said Anjali had come to the city early last year for her course. Their father Anil Kumar Chhillar is a real estate businessman in Jhajhar.
“We have taken statements from Anjali's friends. They said Anjali used to argue with her mother Neelima whenever they spoke. She was speaking with her mother when she fell, said OU sub-inspector D. Shanti Kumar.
“I am six feet one inch tall. I tried to sit on the balcony but it was not possible in a single attempt,” Shanti Kumar said. The victim is around five feet in height. Anjali’s friends said she used a chair to climb on the balcony. Police has booked a case of death under suspicious circumstances.
