KSOU-franchisee war hits students badly

De-recognised in 2015, the KSOU did not conduct any courses till February 2017.

Bengaluru: Thousands of students are now having to pay the price, literally, for the confrontation between the Karnataka State Open University (KSOU), Mysuru and its various franchisees following its de-recognition by the University Grants Commission.

De-recognised in 2015, the KSOU did not conduct any courses till February 2017. But when it began holding examinations for a few courses on the orders of a Chennai court, a franchisee objected and took legal action.

Now the franchisees are reportedly demanding that the students bear the expenses of the legal struggle. “We have paid the examination fee to the university and it has sent the hall tickets to the respective franchisees. But they are refusing to issue the hall tickets unless we pay between '3,500 to '5,000 towards their legal expenses,” complained a student.

“Although we have raised the issue with the KSOU officials, they have not come to our rescue,” he added. When contacted, KSOU officials refused to take any of the blame.
