Engineering entrance examination: Jawahar Navodaya scores high with three ranks
KOTTAYAM: The Jawahar Navodaya School, Vadavathoor, has won laurels in the state engineering entrance examination results. Three students, Abhilash Kar, Prashant Shishodia and Satyabtatha Naik from outside the state, won the 2nd 6th and 10th ranks. School principal G. Beena, who explained the achievements of her students, said "the secret of our success is systematic study in a homely atmosphere. The students here work based on specific goals and they are given periodic tests," Ms Beena told DC. The students are not tortured to produce the results.
"Rather than excessive work, we ask them to work smart," she says. They are also allowed to do extracurricular activities. The Dakshina foundation is funding the entrance coaching of the Navodaya schools using the TIME faculty and the students are selected through a nationwide entrance test. This year, out of the 100 students who appeared for the JEE entrance examinations, 90 qualified. The chosen students undergo the TIME training from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in physics, chemistry and maths. Ms Beena who was previously at the Chhattisgarh branch of the school hails from Kundara in Kollam district.
