Early release of water from Nizamsagar project today
HYDERABAD: Irrigation officials are ready for the early release of water from the Nizamsagar project on Wednesday. This will be the first time this season, water will be released from this reservoir to its main canal and distributaries.
Due to the delay in monsoon this year, farmers had sought water from the reservoir. Ryots under the command area of Nizamsagar project have already started planting saplings of paddy.
Presently, Nizamsagar project has 14.9 thousand million cubic feet (TMC ft) of water. Water level in the project on Tuesday was 1,391.93 feet as against its full reservoir level of 1,405.00 feet.
Assembly Speaker Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Jukkal MLA Hanumanth Shinde, zilla parishad chairperson Dafedar Shobha and others will participate in the water release programme.
Usually, farmers under Nizamsagar ayacut at Banswada, Birkur, Varni, Kotagiri and other nearby mandals sow paddy early in Vanakalam (kharif) season.
Their water needs are generally met through seasonal rains. Water is being released from the Nizamsagar project as the monsoon is delayed this year.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has also directed irrigation officials to release 5 TMC ft of water from Kondapochamma Sagar to Nizamsagar project, in case of any need.
