After a Day's Relief, Heavy Rains Forecast Over the Weekend

HYDERABAD: The rains took a brief break on Friday after four days long of incessant downpour across the state. However, this will be a short-lived relief as the IMD has forecast heavy rains in the next six days.

According to the Telangana State development and Planning Society, the cumulative rainfall recorded from June 1 to July 21 was 326.4 against the normal 273.9 mm, which is a 19 per cent increase.

Very heavy rains, the orange category, were recorded in Karimnagar, Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy, Jagtial and Mahbubnagar districts on Friday. The day’s highest rainfall of 160.3 mm was recorded in Karimnagar, followed by Vikarabad 155.3 mm and Ranga Reddy 134.8 mm.

Within the GHMC limits, 30.8 per cent excess rainfall was recorded in the same period following rainfall of 289.9 mm against the normal 221.7 mm. The highest rainfall on Friday was recorded in Serilingampally at 93.5 mm, followed by Kapra 92.1 mm and Kukatpally 91.8 mm.

The IMD said that heavy rains are very likely to occur at isolated places in Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Mulugu, Siddipet, Rangareddy, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy and Bhadradri Kothagudem districts in the next 24 hours.

In a 24-hour flash flood risk (FRR) forecast, the IMD said that moderate risk was likely in some pockets of Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Peddapalle, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Warangal rural and Warangal urban districts.

Light to moderate rains or thundershowers are very likely to occur at most of the places in the state in the next six days.

Yellow alert will continue for the next four days as heavy rains are very likely to occur in Nizamabad, Adilabad, Komaram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Mulugu, Siddipet, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Medak, Kamareddy, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Vikarabad, Mahbubabad, Kamareddy, Nagarkurnool, Wanaparthy and Hyderabad districts.

For the next 48 hours, the city will have a cloudy sky and light to moderate rains at times with heavy spells will continue with a windy weather as surface winds westerlies and north-westerlies will be around 12-14 kmph.
