Koyilandy Taluk hospital construction in last phase
KOZHIKODE: A new building complex in the Koyilandy Taluk headquarter hospital that is nearing completion and equipped with the latest healthcare technology, will take the load off the Medical College Hospital here which caters to needy patients from the region at present. The hospital has signed an agreement with HLL Life Care to introduce modern equipments with a major emphasis on gynaecology department, including a labour room.
Introduction of new facilities and expansion of the project will indirectly help in controlling the rush at the hospital and prevent patients from going to the Medical College Hospital for minor issues. As part of developing healthcare in the region, a sum of Rs 5 crore was sanctioned for the development of three community health centres.
"The gynaecology department stopped functioning nearly 20 years ago and till date no delivery cases were handled at the hospital citing lack of infrastructure," said Koyilandy MLA, Mr K. Dasan. "As per the plan, we should be able to complete the work at the hospital including infrastructure development and open it for public by January 2017,” he added.
The Uralungal Labour Contract Society was entrusted with the responsibility of construction of the hospital, which is one of the oldest hospitals in the district. The building has six floors, with modern facilities to treat patients. “The project was first mooted by the LDF-led government during 2008 and an amount of '11 crore was sanctioned. That got cancelled citing several technical glitches," he further added.
With the completion of the pending infrastructure works, the complete operation of the hospital will now be shifted to the new building. The Koyilandy municipality took up the hospital development project to raise the centre to a district hospital so that it could benefit more people. A new trauma care unit and Karunya Pharmacy will also come at the centre soon.
