Furious at being let down again, VRAs likely to resume strike

HYDERABAD: Approximately 23,000 village revenue assistants (VRAs) are up in arms against the state government for not fulfilling their demands as promised even after the model code of conduct for the Munugode bypoll ended on November 6.

VRA Joint Action Committee (JAC) secretary-general Dade Mia, convener D Sayanna and co-convener Wanguru Ramulu are holding district-wise meetings with VRAs to discuss and take a decision on the future course of action. JAC leaders did not go on record about going on strike again, saying that they would wait till the month-end. If there was no positive response from the government, they would be forced to go on strike.

The VRAs called off their strike, held from August to October, after the state government in talks with them agreed to fulfill their demands immediately after Munugode election code ended. Since there is no talk on the subject, the VRAs said they were feeling betrayed and were gearing up to resume the strike.
