Kerala govt continues search for a full-time Commissioner of Entrance Examinations

LBS Centre for Science and Technology Director Dr M.T. Reju is holding additional charge as the CEE.

KOCHI: Even as a month completes since B.S. Mavoji quit as the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), the search by the State Government for a new full-time CEE has not reached anywhere while the process for conducting next year’s professional course entrances is behind schedule. LBS Centre for Science and Technology Director Dr M.T. Reju is holding additional charge as the CEE. He is also the CEO of Additional Skill Acquisition Programme also. Sources point out that it is difficult for a person to handle these three portfolios since the job of CEE demands undivided attention.

Mavoji was on extension on the job after retiring from IAS since almost all IAS officers refused the job. So now the Government is scouting for tech-savvy non-IAS educationists as well and is in touch with some. However, it is to be seen whether the appointment will take place this year itself or the Government let the proceedings for the year complete under Dr Reju since the job demands continuity for a year for the admission process to complete.

Mavoji is understood to have refused further extension as the Higher Education Principal Secretary Mr B Srinivas rejected his plea to allow extension for nearly 20 associates in the Commissionerate of Entrance Examinations. Meanwhile since Mavoji’s departure, the whole process for professional course admission (KEAM) is delayed. The prospectus for medical and egnieering admission is not yet out while the prospectus revamp committee is scheduled to meet only on Thursday. Dr Reju is confident to complete the process on time. “There is a system and now that the medical and allied admission process has been detached, it has become simpler,” he added.
