250 aspirational toilets coming up in GHMC limits

Hyderabad: The city will get around 250 aspirational toilets, with improved facilities. Work has commenced on some of them at a few places. While some public toilets will be renovated as part of the scheme to provide an improved user experience, others would be demolished and rebuilt.

Unlike the regular toilets, these units will have neat bath cubicles, automatic sanitary napkin incinerators, touch-less flush and baby feeding rooms.
Another 1,350 aspirational toilets will come up in urban local bodies (ULBs).
“These washrooms will look like the ones found in good restaurants and hotels. We call them luxury loos,” said a GHMC official.

Around 50 per cent of the cost would be borne by the Centre.

unicipal commissioners of all ULBs in Telangana state have been instructed to identify locations where the footfall is high, including tourist locations.

“Markets, places near railway stations and interstate bus depots are the priorities for setting up aspirational toilets,” said an official from the municipal administration and urban development (MAUD) department.
The aspirational toilets concept was launched as part of the Swachh Bharat mission 2.0, towards making cities open defecation free.
