TS has just 31% revenue to spend on promises: Alleti

Hyderabad: BJP Nirmal MLA Alleti Maheshwar Reddy on Wednesday wondered how the Congress government hopes to implement its promises with just 31 per cent of the revenue that it is left after accounting for payment of interest and salaries which account for 34 and 35 per cent of the state's revenue receipts respectively.

He asked how the government hopes to get loans after releasing a white paper like this as financial institutions might also deny loans.

Delivering his address in the Assembly, he rejected the contention of former minister and MLA T. Harish Rao and said the Centre had never forced the states to fix meters to the agriculture pump sets.

Pegging the requirement for implementing the Six Guarantees at Rs 70,000 crores, he asked, “How can this government fund existing social welfare schemes along with new ones? The Congress seems to have given promises to come to power by fooling them. Three DAs are pending and a new PRC (pay revision commission) is also waiting to be given. The debt of Rs 6 lakh crores has been mentioned but there are pending bills which have not been included.”

The government should see the credit rating of the Kaleshwaram SPV (special purpose vehicle) which took loans at 9.6 per cent interest. They should explain what income is going to be generated to pay that rate of interest. Telangana stands last in the country in education and in health we are at the 29th position (fourth from last). With the BRS failing to give unemployment allowance the incumbent government should not be under the impression they can also avoid keeping their promises. We will hold them accountable if they fail to keep them, he said.

Seeking clarity on the finances he asked, “The Chief Minister should say how they will secure funds for the pending farm loan waiver along with the Rs 2 lakh waiver made by them in addition to it. The sources of money should be explained and clarify from when the Rs 500 bonus will be given to the paddy farmers along with paying the enhanced rythu bandhu of Rs 15,000. Does the government plan to sell lands? How does it hope to mop up resources is not clear?”
