Kavitha blames BJP over tribal university, Medaram jatara

WARANGAL: Soon after visiting UNESCO-tagged world heritage Ramappa Temple in Mulugu district, MLA K. Kavitha blamed Bharatiya Janata Party-led centre for not establishing the national tribal university in Mulugu district and denying national status to Asia's largest biennial tribal fair – Medaram Sammakka and Saralamma jatara.

Speaking to media persons after offering prayers to presiding deity Sri Rudhreshwara Swamy at Ramappa Temple accompanied by tribal welfare minister Satyavathi Rathode, Kavitha underlined that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao is fully aware of problems being faced by Mulugu people. That is why he made Mulugu a separate district. But the BJP government had discriminated against Telangana by not sanctioning the tribal university to it, even though the state government had allotted land for the university.

The state government had also demanded that central government give national status to the Medaram Jatara. The issue had even been raised in parliament. But there has been no response till date, she regretted.

Kavitha maintained that after formation of the new state, Telangana, as well as Mulugu district, has seen immense development. During its eight years of reign, Telangana government allotted ₹100 crore four times to Asia’s largest Sammakka, Sarakka tribal fair. Sammakka Barrage had been constructed at Tupakulagudem at a cost of ₹1,800 crores. A pilot project had been started for providing better healthcare in Mulugu district, apart from introduction of Nutrition Kit programme. A medical college has been allotted to the district, with classes beginning from the next academic year.

The MLC maintained that Ramappa Temple got World Heritage tag from UNESCO after the BRS government worked for it. She said the state government is developing the surroundings of Ramappa Temple to suit its stature as a world heritage site. No major changes, however, will be made at the temple, as it is important to preserve the great masterpieces of art at Ramappa Temple.

Later, Kavitha visited Jayashankar Bhupalpally district and participated in various developmental activities.

ZP chairman Kusuma Jagadish, district library department chairman P. Govind Naik, Bhupalpally MLA Gandra Venkataramana Reddy, Telangana Redco chairman Y. Satish Reddy, and corporation for disabled chairman Vasudev Reddy were among those present.
