Govt. ready to help farmers hit by crop loss: Vinod Kumar
WARANGAL: Farmers need not be worried over crop loss due to the unseasonal rain and hail storms as the state government “will help every such farmer,” promised the vice-chairman of the state planning commission Boinapally Vinod Kumar on Tuesday.
He was speaking to the media after making an assessment of the loss to the paddy, corn, mango and watermelon crops at Ramadagu and Choppadandi mandals of Karimnagar district.
Kumar said several types of crops cultivated in around 21 acres were majorly damaged in the recent heavy rain. He hoped that officials would take immediate steps for helping around 18,000 affected farmers and submit their report to the government at the earliest.
“As soon as we get the report, it would be taken up with chief minister Chandrasekhar Rao and steps would be taken to help every affected farmer,” he said.
“Before the formation of Telangana state, large amounts of water used to flow waste into the sea and the entire region used to look like a desert. But after 2014, by harvesting every drop of rainwater through the construction of several irrigation projects and through filling lakes, several new crops are being cultivated in the state. The underground water table has increased enormously and all the bore wells are functional," he said.
MLA Sunke Ravishankar said farmers faced huge losses due to the unseasonal rain season after season. "But the state government would help all the affected farmers in the district." District collector RV Karnan, ZP chief executive officer Priyanka, agriculture officer Sridhar and horticulture officer Srinivas were present.
