Hydel Tourism Centre proposes new projects

The Hydel Centre currently has submitted an Rs 26-crore project for setting up the largest laser show in the background of Idukki arch dam.

Kochi: Kerala Hydel Tourism Centre, a subsidiary of Kerala State Electricity Board Ltd (KSEBL) has chalked out a slew of projects to leverage tourism potential of hydroelectric projects in a big way.

Speaking to reporters in Kochi on Saturday, Hydel Tourism Centre director K.J. Jose said the steps to convert the Hydel Centre as a company is expected to complete in a few months.

The Hydel Centre currently has submitted an Rs 26-crore project for setting up the largest laser show in the background of Idukki arch dam. “The project is waiting for the final clearance from the government as another Rs 200 crore project is also pending before it," he said.

“The Centre is also setting up a car parking facility in Munnar with a capacity of 1,200 units in a month. We hope to complete the project before the Kurinji season begins.”

The Hydel Centre, which has clocked a revenue of Rs 15 crore in 2017-18, also plans to set up amusement parks at Banasura Sagar in Wayanad, Kakkayam, Kundala, Anayirangal near Munnar and Ponmudi near Idukki. At present, the Centre is operating 21 hydel tourism sites in the state. Mr Jose also said that the Cowboy County, its amusement park in, Munnar had introduced a special vacation family package of Rs 1,000 to take advantage of the summer vacation season.

K.V. Madhusudhanan, general manager of Cowboy Park, said the package provides an opportunity to avail all rides in the park for a family of four.
