Godavari basin reservoirs get copious inflows Krishna basin not getting much inflows
HYDERABAD: Heavy inflows have continued into major reservoirs in the state in recent days. Due to heavy rainfall, the Godavari river basin experienced heavy inflows from upstream areas, leading to the fast filling up of the reservoirs.
Officials said River Godavari and its tributaries—Pranahitha and Manjeera -- got copious inflows.
The River Krishna basin reservoirs have not got sizable inflows from upstream areas in Karnataka state so far. All the major reservoirs under the Krishna basin, were far down its full reservoir level (FRL). In view of the heavy rains, irrigation officials of Telangana state were coordinating with their counterparts in Maharashtra to avert flood-related problems.
On River Godavari, Sitammasagar at Dummugudem had inflows of 8,56,541 cusecs, Sammakkasagar at Tupakulagudem 7,93,420 cusecs and Laxmi barrage at Medigadda got the highest inflows of 5,33,960 cusecs, and matching outflows.
In the Sripada Yellampally project, inflows and outflows stood at 2,61,454 cusecs and 2,53,250 cusecs respectively.
The Kadam Narayana Reddy project in Nirmal district got inflows of 40,025 cusecs, but the officials arranged an outflow of 1,03,338 cusecs. The Sriramsagar project in Nizamabad district received 92,590 cusecs of inflows from its catchment areas, but officials did not release water downstream of River Godavari.
River Manjeera got water flows from upstream areas of the order of 12,515 cusecs, reaching the Singur reservoir while the Nizamsagar project got 38,700 cusecs of water.
The water level in River Godavari at the temple town Bhadrachalam touched 41.80 feet by Friday evening. Inflows continued at 8,80,495 cusecs. In Krishna basin, 70,780 cusecs of inflows was received at Almatti (Karnataka), while Ujjaini (Maharashtra) had 22,248 cusecs and Tungabhadra (Karnataka) 13,340 cusecs on Friday.
The Srisailam, Nagarjunasagar, Jurala and Koil Sagar got less inflows.
Transport minister Puvvada Ajay visited the bridge in Bhadrachalam on Friday and reviewed the flood situation with district collector Priyanka and other officials. He said three helipads will be set up for emergencies in Bhadrachalam. NDRF and rescue teams will be on stand-by for emergencies. Affected people will be shifted from inundated areas to flood relief camps, he said.
Special officers dealing the flood situations, Krishna Aditya, Goutham Potru and others were present.
Meanwhile, in Mancherial government hospital, patients were shifted to safer places as the floodwaters entered the hospital premises.
