Toddler rescued at Renigunta railway station
TIRUPATI: In a freak incident at Renigunta railway station on Friday, an 18-month-old girl Sai Yasashwini found herself trapped when her head got stuck between steel pillars while playing on platform number one.
The mishap occurred while the girl from Rajampet was playing. Her head accidentally slipped into the gap between the steel pillars and she could not free herself, leading to her cries for help.
Her parents made desperate attempts to bend the pillars and get their daughter’s head released. They could not succeed. Realising the severity of the situation, the parents immediately sought help from government railway police (GRP).
The GRP, with help of railway officials, brought a welder to cut the pillars without harming the girl. The welder skilfully cut the pillars and freed the girl’s head from the pillar.
Speaking to Deccan Chronicle, GRP sub-inspector M.V. Anil Kumar said the entire operation took about one-and-a-half hours. Once freed, the girl remained with her parents till they took the train for Rajampet.
