Strict implementation of traffic rules in Hyderabad

A fine of Rs 1,700 fine for driving on the wrong side and Rs 1,200 for triple riding will be levied

HYDERABAD: The city traffic police on Monday denied social media reports that special traffic drives in the city were being taken up to shore up government revenue.

Joint commissioner of police, traffic, A.V. Ranganath said that the implementation of traffic rules in the city was being made stricter, and the special drive for wrong route driving and triple driving had started on Monday. He said that it many accidents took place because of wrong-side driving.

He said the regulations being adopted were not new, contrary to what was being said on social media. “The Motor Vehicle Act of 2013 is in the GO. We will educate the motorists for this week and the fines will be levied according to the type of vehicle for the wrong side driving,” Ranganath said.

A fine of Rs 1,700 fine for driving on the wrong side and Rs 1,200 for triple riding will be levied, he said.

The commissioner said that it was untrue that motorists were facing difficulties as U-turns were being placed at some distance from the crossroads. He said a
time-bound signal system was maintained across the city.
