Govt urged to include Urdu for TSPSC exams

Hyderabad: The state president of Tahreek Urdu Telangana, Iftekhar Mohammad Khan Zia, demanded the state government to include Urdu as an option in a recruitment exam for the post of junior lecturers.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Iftekhar said the Telangana State Public Service Commission (TSPSC) recently issued a notification for recruitment of junior lecturers’ posts and that the exams will only be conducted in English and Telugu. “There are many Muslim candidates who are not very fluent either in English or Telugu. Since exams will be held on general Studies and concerned subjects, it will prove difficult for Muslim candidates to appear for the examination and qualify.”

Iftekhar alleged that because of some BJP leaders objecting to inclusion of Urdu in TSPSC’s competitive exams, it might have excluded Urdu as an option, which is unfair to thousands of candidates appearing for the test.

Urdu is the state’s second language and will help thousands of aspirants. Providing Urdu as an option with the other languages will provide an equal opportunity to all candidates appearing for the exam, he remarked.
