LoP Inspects School Following Complaint Of Toilets Cleaning By Students

Bengaluru: Following a complaint of students reportedly asked to clean school toilet at Andhrahalli Government School under Yeshwanthpur Assembly seat in Bengaluru city, Leader of Opposition and BJP MLA R. Ashok on Friday hand firsthand information of the toilet cleaning from students of the school.

It may be recalled here that inmates of Morarji Desai Residential School, Malur in Kolar were allegedly made to clean a septic tank of the school a week back and the incident drew the attention of Ashok who made a spot inspection demanding an inquiry from a sitting Judge.

On his visit, it came to the notice of Ashok that the funds were meant for clean toilets at the school but school management hasn’t used it for the purpose of keeping the toilets clean.

During his inspection of the school, Ashok interacted with the students and it was brought to his notice by the students that they were asked to clean toilets by the Headmaster. The students also told the Leader of Opposition that there are no separate staff to clean the toilets and students are often made to keep the toilet clean.

Students told Ashok that the students face drinking water problems and no steps have been initiated to supply water to the school. Water to the students is transported from outside, the students said.

Later, Ashok told reporters that inaction from the State Government has led to such incidents of students being engaged to clean toilets and septic tanks and asked officials concerned to make surprise visits to schools to take note of the forcing students to clean toilets among others.

Ashok questioned “When will the situation improve?” and expressed displeasure over the Minister for Primary and Secondary Education remaining silent over the issue of students cleaning septic tanks/toilets.
