Bad roads, open drain haunt USR Nagar
Vijayawada: Open drains and damaged roads are the unsolved problems at Urmila Subbaraonagar (USR Nagar).
With the diversion of heavy vehicles due to the ongoing Kanaka Durga flyover works, roads in the colony have been completely damaged. The roads have developed pits at many places making the ride jerkier for the commuters.
Another problem that is associated with the rough roads is the dust pollution.
With the plying of heavy vehicles throughout the day and night, dust pollution has increased in the colony. T. Koteswar Rao, who runs a small eatery in the colony, has said traffic has become a major problem in the colony and what aggravates the situation is the galloping dust that comes with the heavy vehicles on the roads. “Another long-pending problem in the colony is the open drains which emanate stinking smell in the colony.
These open drains are blocked at many places filled with garbage and have become a breeding grounds for mosquitoes. “We complained to the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation many times but the situation has been the same,” said Maccha Durga Rao, a resident of the colony. He said every time they complain a few workers will turn up and do a little work, but within two or three days the drains will get blocked again.
The vacant lands in the colony have become dumping yards of late. The VMC workers are dumping the litter collected from the colony in the vacant lands.
The losely hanging electrical wires are another problem that the locals have pointed out in the colony.
