HYDERABAD: A stray dog created terror in Yacharam mandal of Ranga Reddy district on Thursday, biting around 10 pilgrims who were walking in groups on the Nagarjunasagar road.
They were taken to the Yacharam Government Hospital for treatment, while four were eventually shifted to the Government Fever Hospital in Nallakunta
K. Sucharitha, Yacharam tahsildar, said, “Six of the 10 injured were given anti-rabies vaccine and sent home, four are undergoing treatment at the Fever Hospital. All ten out of danger."
Last week, a four-year-old boy, Pradeep, was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Amberpet; on Tuesday night, four-year-old Rishi was bitten by a pack of stray dogs in Chaitanyapuri's Maruthinagar colony while playing near his home; another toddler was attacked by a stray dog outside his home in Rajendranagar's Yerraboda.
Veterinary doctors and canine trainers explain the reason why kids are soft targets for stray dogs. "Dogs are members of the wolf family, and each dog herd has an alpha male who dominates other dogs. They mostly tend to attack in groups. They pick children because all animals consider anything smaller than them to be prey,” Dr G. Bhaskar Rao, a veterinarian, said.
