Call to come up with action plan to extend area of cultivation of millets

Vijayawada: Governor S. Abdul Nazeer called upon the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University to come up with an action plan for the extension of cultivation of millets in new areas in the state.

Addressing the gathering on the 55th convocation of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University at Bapatla on Monday, the Governor felt the need to develop the millet villages/zones in various districts based on suitability with the help of agriculture department.

Referring to the Sustainable Development Goal-2 of the United Nations Organisation which set a target to achieve food security, eliminate hunger, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030, the Governor said that India was promoting the millets-based diet given their rich source of nutrition.

Governor congratulated the university for taking up nutritional security as one of its top priorities in its research programme.

University vice-chancellor Dr A. Vishnuvardhan Reddy presented the annual report of the university.
