HYDERABAD: The city woke up to cooler weather and a pleasant break from the heat and sunny mornings on Monday, thanks to the early morning rains that were accompanied by thunderstorms.
Many areas under GHMC limits experienced moderate rains and thundershowers with gusty winds of of up to 40 kmph.
The state recorded the highest rainfall of 88.3 mm in Ranga Reddy, followed by Jagtial at 55 mm and Karimnagar 54.3 mm, according to the report of TS Development and Planning Society.
The city recorded moderate rainfall with the highest rainfall of 52.3 mm in Rajendranagar, followed by Amberpet 46.3 mm and Serilingampally 44.5 mm.
The temperatures dropped across the state with the highest maximum temperature of 43.8 degree Celsius recorded at Peddapalli and Jayashankar, followed by Mancherial 43.7ºC and Kumaram Bheem 43.4ºC.
The highest maximum temperatures in the city limits also experienced a dip with 40ºC in Gachibowli, Trimulgherry 39.7ºC and Khairatabad 39.6ºC.
Meanwhile, many places in the city bore the brunt of power cuts from early morning, including Bowenpally, Nacharam, Saidabad, Krishnanagar, Tank Bund, Sun City, Bandlaguda Jagir, Tolichowki, Kompally, Mallapur, Moosarambagh, Beeramguda, Motinagar, Asifnagar, Mehdipatnam, Erragadda, Katedan, Koti, Abids, Rajendranagar, Amberpet, Chandanagar, Serilingampally, Ramchanderpuram, Malkajgiri, Uppal, Santoshnagar and Begumpet.
However, activities in market areas were disrupted as merchants faced difficulties in unloading their stock at Malakpet mirchi and onion markets. Unloading of around 60 trucks had to be put on hold because of the downpour. It was likewise at Begum Bazaar as shopkeepers complained that groceries could not be unloaded. Mango traders lamented that the rains would spoil the stock of mangoes in the storage due to excess moisture.
Several areas also experienced clogging which kept the enforcement and disaster management teams of GHMC busy.
As per IMD, light to moderate rains with thundershowers are very likely to occur at isolated places across the state in the next three days. A yellow warning has been given as a north-south trough is running from Vidarbha to cyclonic circulation over south Tamil Nadu across Telangana state and Rayalaseema at 0.9 km above mean sea level. This will bring more rains in the state.
The city will also receive light to moderate rains or thundershowers towards Tuesday evening or night and maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 38ºC and 22ºC, respectively.
