Pappanamcode set for by-elections on July 28
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The LDF ruled City Corporation that hangs by a slim minority will engage in a prestigious battle at Pappanamcode during the by-elections on July 28 as BJP tries to hold its fort. To make things easier, the opposition has fielded Ashanath GS, the niece of former councillor K. Chandran, who passed away while in office. The RSS man died due to electric shock suffered from a clothes iron.
Asha, an activist, claims that she has been active in ground level works in the ward undertaken by her uncle. “I have held three rounds of election campaign and I am told by my voters that they would have voted for me even if I did not ask for a vote,” Asha said. Meanwhile, the LDF camp has fielded a locally known youth K. Mohanan to win the seat.
“Election here can’t be won just by sympathy. Issues here are mostly about bad roads and bylanes, which have not been repaired. Apart from this there are streetlight issues,” said a campaign executive of Mohanan. Areas such as Naricheer, Vivek Nagar and Kizhakkeveedu reel from water scarcity.
The UDF candidate Arun Vishnu CK is also upbeat about his scope as he points out that there is a current against the LDF also as they had displayed incompetence when they held the ward before Chandran. On July 28, elections will also take place at Akkaravila, ward of Vettoor panchayat and Thottamukku ward of Tholikode panchayat in the district.
