VIJAYAWADA: MLA Malladi Vishnu stated that road works are going on at brisk pace in Vijayawada Central constituency. On Friday, he inaugurated the Nadu-Nedu photo exhibition related to road works at the Circle-2 office in Satyanarayanapuram along with city mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi, deputy mayor Avuthu Sailaja and YSRCP corporators.
Vishnu explained that the photo exhibition was part of attempts at creating complete awareness among the people about the development works going on in the constituency. He said that 73.65km road works have been done in the constituency with Rs 95.13 crore in the last three years.
He said 100 new roads of 22.98km have been completed with Rs 24.71 crore. Some 78 roads are under construction at various stages through 20.31km with Rs 36.40 crore. About 115 road works will be undertaken with Rs 30.56 crore.
The MLA said the municipal corporation has focused on improving groundwater supply for drinking purposes. He inaugurated the newly constructed Inkudu Gunta (percolation pits) in Circle-2 office premises.
He said there is a need to set up more percolation pits in open places in government offices. These will contribute a lot to the increase in ground water level. Also, officials and public representatives were advised to give wide publicity at the field level on these pits.
Mayor Bhagyalakshmi said renovation of roads was given top priority and works are being done at a brisk pace. The difference between the roads that were neglected during the previous Telugu Desam government and the modernized roads in the YSRC government was clearly shown in the photo exhibition, she said.
