As AP files SLP in Supreme Court against Margadarshi case, plea to TS to do same

KAKINADA: Former Rajamahendravaram MP Aruna Kumar has appreciated the filing of a special leave petition (SLP) by the state government in the Margadarsi case. He urged the Telangana government to do the same.

Aruna Kumar told the media in Rajamahendravaram that he had first raised the issue in 2006 when the late YS Rajasekhara Reddy was the chief minister. He had alleged then that Margadarshi Chit Funds was guilty of violating several provisions of the law and the HUF should not carry out chit fund business.
That case had been hanging fire since 2006 and it came up in the Supreme Court recently, he said.

He said that it was on chief minister Jagan Reddy’s instructions that the state government filed an SLP in the apex court by impleading itself in the case.
He appealed to the Telangana government to file an SLP on behalf of TS to protect the law.

“At present, chief minister Chandrashekar Rao dares to face Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He should file an implead petition in the case as it is a responsibility of both the AP and TS governments to protect the law.”

Kumar explained the details of the case that caused a sensation in 2006.

He said that after he brought the Margadarsi Chit Funds Issue to limelight, the AP government wrote a letter to RBI, explaining about the company. The RBI replied to the government that it had already warned the firm not to do business under the bylaws. Then, Margadarsi company wrote to RBI to close the firm. But, it did not do it.

“RBI advised the government to take action against the firm,” he said.
Kumar also said that Margadarshi Chit Funds filed a defamation suit for Rs 55 lakh against him, stating that there was no relation between Margadarshi and Ramoji Rao. But Ramoji Rao’s affidavit clearly showed his role in the firm, including Priya Pickles and the Usha Kiran organisation.

He said that as per law, if any person misled the court, he or she would face a 7-year imprisonment.

Kumar said all people should be equal before law. This must be so for the rich and the influential too. Many influential persons meet Ramoji Rao, he said, and cited the example of the Union home minister Amit Shah having met Ramoji Rao.
He said Ramoji Rao did not reveal even the depositors’ names.
